BACKGROUND

THE INDIAN DOCTOR tells the story of Dr Prem Sharma, a young Indian medic who arrived to build a new life in Britain in the summer of 1963.

His dream of a smart Harley Street practice was shattered within moments of arrival: in reality, his posting was to a tiny mining village nestled in the Welsh valleys.

Within weeks, Prem’s life was thrown into turmoil and he was drawn into an unfolding mystery that only he could solve.

Now a multiple award-winning BBC drama series, the story has earned both popular and critical acclaim and a third series is currently in development.

The warmth, humour and compassion of Prem’s story has already established a very loyal fan base.

In March 2011 The Indian Doctor was awarded a national Royal Television Society award and two BAFTA Cymrus.

The series has been sold to numerous TV networks around the world.
